Songs in elections!

Here's what the big-wigs in Indian politics would be singing after the elections results -

Sonia Gandhi -

Aaj main oopar aasmaan neeche
Aaj main aage zamaana hai peechhe
Tell me o khuda
Ab main kya karoon
Chaloon seedhi ki ulti chaloon

Jhoome ja mauj mein rukna na jaanejaan
Dekhoon ye tarang rukti hai kahaan
Main bhi ter sang
In lehron pe chaloon
Sar ke bal ya kadam se chaloon (Khamoshi)

Mulayam Singh / Amar Singh -

Soniyo.., O Soniyo..
Tumhein Dekhta Hoon To Sohcta Hoon Bas Yehi
Tum Jo.., Mera Saath Do..
Sare Gum Bhola Ke Jee Lu Muskuraake Zindagi
Tu Dede Mera Saath Tham Le Haath
Chahe Jo Bhi Ho Baat Tu Bas De De Mera Saath (Raaz)

Lalu and Ram Vilas Paswan -

Do bichaare bina sahaare
Dekho puchh puchhkar haare

O father apna aisa huva hai ghotaala 2
Mili chaavi par mila hai nahi humko taala
Gar maal milega jyaada 2
Tujhko de denge aadha yeh hai vaada, kya iraada
Koi kaam nahi hai saadha, lekin jaana adha (Victoria No. 203)

Prakash Karat -

kyaa se kyaa ho gayaa, bewafaa tere pyaar mein
chaahaa kyaa, kyaa milaa, bewafaa tere pyaar mein
chalo suhaanaa bharam to tootaa
jaanaa ke husn kyaa hain
kahatee hain jis ko pyaar duniyaa
kyaa cheej kyaa balaa hain
dil ne kyaa naa sahaa, bewafaa tere pyaar mein (Guide)

Mayawati -
mera sundar sapna beet gaya
main prem mein sab kuchh har gayi
bedard zamaana jeet gaya
mera sundar sapna beet gaya

kyun kali badariya chaayi hai
kyun kali kali muskayi hai
meri prem kahani khatm hui
mere jeewan ka sangeet gaya
mera sundar sapna beet gaya (Do Bhai)

Mamata -

Koi hero yahan koi zero yahan
Koi star hai koi bekaar hai
Koi hero yahan koi zero yahan
Koi star hai koi bekaar hai
Main kaun hoon tumse main kya kahoon
Hai sach to ye doston
Ho I am the best I am the best I am the best (Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani)

Nitish Kumar -

Jane waale, jane waale zara hoshiyaar
Yahaan ke ham hein rajkumar
Huye huye aage peeche
Aage peeche humaari sarkaar
Yahan ke ham hein rajkumar (Raj Kumar)

Advani -

Kab Se Usko Dhondta Hoon, Bhegi Palko Se Yahan
Ab Jane Woh Kahan Hai, Tha To Mera Ashiyan
Rabba Mere Mujhko Bata, Haaye De Mujhe Kyon Yeh Saza
Ab Sare Bandhan Thod Ke, Yaadon Ko Tanha Chod Ke
Mein Ghum Se Rista Jod Ke Jau Kahan (Billu barber)

Manmohan Singh -

Hain ek colour ke terah patte,
Lekin sab mein bass ek king,
Ace bhi hum hai, base bhi hum hai,
Aur jigar mein hain daring..
Hum..hum kare dil ki jo marzi,
Karte karte bass had kar di,
Dil agar sachcha ho,
Rab sab karde setting.. (Singh is King!)

Congressulations!

2009 parliamentary election couldn't have come at a better time for India. With global economy in dire states, bailout packages flying like pack of cards and governments busy preparing stimulus plans, circulating money and increasing spendings had become need of the hour. Like all other economies, Indian economy too needed a jolt. And it came in the form of 'elections 2009' - a 6000 crore stimulus!

There was excitement in the air on the eve of the election. After the Mumbai attacks, it was expected that people would come out in large numbers to vote. But it wasnt to be. In fact, the voting percentage in Mumbai declined to 42%, about 3% less than last time. Scorching heat, long weekend or mere indifference, whatever the reason be, it was just dissapointing!

16th May 2009 - the D-day. With EVMS in place, the counting was expected to finish in half a day! Thats awesome for a developing country like India. As expected, Congress started with a big lead. Faring better than NDA was definitely on the cards, as NDA lacked a strong leadership (contrary to their claims of 'mazboot neta, nirnayak sarkar). The country seems to have matured a lot, with a clear understanding that religious fundamentalism at the center could do no good to a secular state. Moreover, the people are tired of the riots and hungamas based on fundamentalism. Also, the general anti-incumbency mood was missing. The only threat could have been from 3rd front, and some spurring alliances. As the counting completed and results came out, it was clear that Congress had thwarted all the threats to record a historic performance, winning over 200 seats. With Mayawati falling flat on her face, Left having no place to hide and Advani dream of becoming PM remaining a dream, its a red carpet for Congress. Led by Manmohan Singh (who eventually turned out to be sashakt neta), India is looking forward to a progressive, decisive, sobre and a strong government.

As Left's left out of the government, we can expect reforms to take place at a faster pace. The first task at hands for the new government would be to get the economy back on track. This task seems to be in safe hands. The second task would be to strengthen the foreign policies, and third, to prepare for countering any threat from neighbourhood. It is to be seen whether the Congress, with a younger team, does meet the burden of expectations. But at the moment, it can just rejoice and celebrate the wonderful performantce. An apt Pankillism to conclude the election story - "Congressulations!"

All's Over

Monday morning (15th September, 2008).. I got up at 6-30 in the morning … Was about to have my tea, when I saw my cell’s screen.. 3 missed calls.. one was from my team-mate Paminder.. immediately called him up .. as we were awaiting a takeover news which was due to come on Sunday night… speculations were large that Bank of America would be the saviour .. that it would take over Lehman with all its liabilities… and there was Barclays who also in the fray… I wasn’t more awake on any other morning before…
As the phone was ringing.. I was wondering what should I bet on.. Barclays or BoA. .. Pami picked up the phone… I asked “Did BoA take over ?” …. “It did.. but not us.. the’ve taken Merill… and even Barclays have backed off…. We’re gone” … I was shocked… didn’t know how to react… don’t remember what the rest of the conversation was…

Ever-optimist that I am. .. thought that we would be able to continue as it is.. as there was no buyer… and Dick Fuld would once again script a historic turnaround in few months time.. he had done that on numerous occasions .. but then the dreaded thought crossed my mind.. what if we have to file for bankruptcy … Got ready and rushed off to catch the bus.. not many in the bus knew what had happened…. Then I returned the other missed call… Ramach (G. Ramachandran … our finance Guru in Lehman) … even he wasn’t sure as to what would happen… he spelt out various possibilities… one of them being filing for bankruptcy…

As I reached office.. various talks had already started … my day started with routine mail check… Reshma (my teammate) had her engagement on the previous day.. she had got the sweets.. I told her not to open the box immediately.. it definitely wasn’t time for sweets… As we wondered what would happen next… Dick took the inevitable step… “Lehman files for Chapter 11” read the internal memo… I could see number of people with their hands on their head… it was hard to digest that the behemoth could go down in a day.. rather.. in a night.. I’ll never forget the despair on my teammates face when he said… “All’s over”.

Ambitious VS UnAmbitious

"
My friend has told me one of his observation which I want to share with you,
"Being more ambitious is more dangerous than being not ambitious."
Its not that I completely agree with him, but I will remember this for rest of my life.
" read Ayre's blog.

I'd rather not be in a neutral zone and oppose that statement strongly... Being unambitious is the worst thing... Given an option of not doing something ... and failing after doing something.. i'd prefer the latter...coz i'll learn one way which doesnt work (Benjamin Franklin wud agree ;)).. but the problem is that the options are not as simple... u are not restricted to such two choices... coz if u r not doing that thing.. u may do something else where u may succeed.. what does one do in such situation.. answer is not at all simple .... but one thing which could become a solution is 'Quick Decision!'.. .. i am learning .. learning to take quick decision....
